When a loved one experiences pregnancy or infant loss, we feel like we’re scrambling for answers. Here are some resources to guide you through dealing with the death of a baby, regardless of the duration of the pregnancy.

The Perinatal Loss Centre
The Perinatal Loss Centre offer support to medical professionals, families and loved ones on perinatal grief, including hospital consultations and community support.

Red Nose Grief and Loss
A 24 hour support line specifically for persons who have suffered the loss of a baby. This site includes a resource library, video series and link to a Facebook support group.

SANDS
SANDS Australia provides information on miscarriage, stillbirth and newborn death. Along with online and face-to-face support, families have access to a 24/7 phone support line and specialized support groups for men. E-learning and in-service workshops are available to healthcare professionals, including referral information and tips on bereavement care.

Parents Orphelins offers extensive information on dealing with pregnancy loss and infant loss in both French and English. Along with support for grieving parents and siblings, the site also provides information specifically for medical professionals and ways grandparents can be a part of the grieving and healing process.

Baby’s Breath Canada
Baby’s Breath Canada provides information and support for those dealing with infant loss through stillbirth or SIDS. Along with peer support and resources, requests for personalized bereavement packages can also be sent on behalf of a grieving family.

The Compassionate Friends of Canada
The Compassionate Friends of Canada was formed by a group of families who have had children pass away during different times. Support groups are offered by province and area, and include specialized groups for men, siblings and parents.

SOS Grossesse
SOS Grossesse provides information in French regarding pregnancy loss, including the physical after effects of a miscarriage, how to manage loss as a couple, and how to share the news with loved ones.

Along with local resources, With Love, Aydrah hosts an infant loss support group at Winnipeg’s The Birth Centre. With Love, Aydrah is established by Aydrah’s mother, Lisa Dean.

French counselling and support meetings for those who have lost children to miscarriage or stillbirth.

Les Perseides
Les Perseides is a French organization which offers bereaved parents information on infant death and various supports. Activities include memorial walks, monthly meetings, as well as peer support for families expecting a child after a loss.

Parents Orphelins - Services
Parents Orphelins offers a helpline as well as in-person and virtual support groups on a monthly basis. The organization also hosts an annual Candle Walk in honour of children who have died due to miscarriage or stillbirth and has a helpline to assist with personalized services such as regional research and information on funeral planning.

Préma-Québec For Parents of Preemies
Préma-Québec offers a support phone line for families who have premature infants, which includes information for those who have experienced infant loss. The site offers resources in French and English, including a colouring book called, “Baby Bear has Died” to explain death to bereaved children and hosts a private support group on Facebook called “The Grieving Kit”.

United Kingdom

 

The Good Grief Trust
The Good Grief Trust addresses the needs of various types of bereaved families, including those who have lost a child. Among the organization's many articles and videos on how to deal with death, they also provide information on immediate steps after someone dies (such as how to organize a funeral) and ways to commemorate the deceased.

The Miscarriage Association
A registered UK charity, The Miscarriage Association is a comprehensive website that offers information on various kinds of miscarriages, treatment, and personal experiences of those who have gone through loss. The site also includes a private forum, phone helpline and opportunities to participate in research studies regarding pregnancy loss.

SANDS
Along with its research and bereaved family support resources, SANDS (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death charity) aims to reduce the number of babies dying by at least 20% and to have a bereavement lead in every trust or health board and at least one bereavement suite in every hospital.

Tommy’s
The Tommy’s organization funds four research facilities out of the UK to support bereaved families and prevent future cases of miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth. Along with local opportunities to be involved, Tommy’s also has an online support group and features families who share their stories of love and loss.

The Centre for Loss in Multiple Birth (CLIMB) is a non-profit organization which supports families who have suffered the death of a child or a set of children. Along with information regarding managing grief, CLIMB also provides information in multiple languages, including French, Chinese, Russian & Spanish.

March of Dimes - Loss and Grief
The March of Dimes (or Thee National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis) is an organization which advocates for the health of women and their babies, including those who have suffered pregnancy loss and perinatal death. Based out of Arlington, Virginia, they also offer assistance in Spanish through their sister site, Nacersano.

Noble Paperie - Covered in Care
Based out of California, The Noble Paperie’s resource library called Covered in Care offers a plethora of resources regarding pregnancy and infant loss, including podcasts, books, articles and momentos. They also sell beautiful cards for miscarriage, still birth and NICU families.

Return to Zero: H. O. P. E.
Return to Zero: H. O. P. E. provides a step-by-step guide on how to navigate pregnancy and infant loss, from the moment a person is at the hospital to finding support in the grieving and recovery process. Information on what to do at the Hospital is available in various languages, including Portuquese, Russian, German and Turkish.
